Brush Fire – Heckscher State Park
At 1605 on Monday, June 27, Great River Fire Department was activated for an outside fire in the vicinity of field 8 of Heckscher State Park. Upon arrival, the crew of Engine 3-9-6 found a working brush fire having already consumed a 20′ x 20′ area. The crew pulled a 1 3/4″ hand line and extinguished the fire quickly. West Sayville Fire Department Brush 3-10-10 was on scene and assisted with extinguishing hot spots. The origin looked to be hot coals dumped in the brush.
