Ride along with Captain Llobell as the Great River Firefighters practice on the “taxpayer” building at the Suffolk County Fire Academy. This version of the video is a rough cut, it is full length and hasn’t been edited down. Jump to 15:30, 31:20, 33:20, 43:00 (Rollover-fire across the ceiling), 45:30, and 51:00 (First person perspective hose handling) for the exciting parts. The level of visibility you see on the video is what we saw in the building!

MVA with Negative PI & Vehicle Extrication at SCFA

On May 11, 2011 while gearing up for extrication training at the SCFA, Great River FD was activated for a MVA involving two vehicles at the corner of River Road and Woodhollow Road. Great River responded with a full crew including Rescue 394, Engine 392 and 398. Exchange Ambulance was on scene with two ambulances.

After clearing the scene, Great River FD continued on to the SCFA for MVA and extrication training.

Ice Rescue Training

You Great River Fire Department spent the morning on ice. Members headed out on the ice at the boat ramp at Heckscher State Park to brush up on their ice rescue skills. With the assistance of firefighters on land, Firefighters Gormley and Llobell raced to rescue the “victim” approximately 40 yards out in the marina. While the winner of the race is debatable, the “victim” was ultimately brought to safety quickly by the teamwork of the crew.
